The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest and fiercest encounters in the Pacific War. This battle resulted in the awarding of 22 Medals of Honor to U.S. Marines. The Iwo Jima 80th Anniversary Coin commemorates the battle and honors both the U.S. Marines and Japanese veterans who fought there—once as adversaries, but now as brothers in honor.

The coin's obverse (front side) depicts U.S. Marines raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi.
The coin's reverse (back side) features the epitaph from the "Reunion of Honor" memorial on Iwo-Jima Island.

Extra large coin - really stands out

The coin represents a truly historic milestone in world history so the coin has a lot of meaning. It is understated (not too busy or gawdy) but striking. It's larger than most other coins in my collection so it makes a great statement. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
