Iwo Jima 80th Coin

The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest and fiercest encounters in the Pacific War. This battle resulted in the awarding of 22 Medals of Honor to U.S. Marines. The Iwo Jima 80th Anniversary Coin commemorates the battle and honors both the U.S. Marines and Japanese veterans who fought there—once as adversaries, but now as brothers in honor.

• The coin's obverse (front side) depicts U.S. Marines raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi.
• The coin's reverse (back side) features the epitaph from the "Reunion of Honor" memorial on Iwo-Jima Island.
